Intel?
skoool Sri Lanka is the latest in a series of worldwide
initiatives by Intel in the educational sector. The Intel? Education
initiative is a global, multi-million dollar programme focusing on
preparing today's students for tomorrow's challenges. In 2000, Intel
Corporation contributed more than $107 million worldwide to primary,
secondary and third level education programmes.
Education is a major focus area for Intel Ireland. Building on
Intel’s mission of being a major force in improving science, maths
and technology education, Intel has implemented a number of
programmes at both local and national level, including

Intel? Innovation Centre
The Innovation Centre (IIC) has global responsibility to
research and develop innovative leading-edge IT solutions and
technology.
The Innovation Centre is at the forefront of demonstrating how
Information Technology and Intel products can continue to
deliver new competitive advantage through the development of
compelling new IT value propositions. A key driver will involve
the identification and resolution of real business issues
through developing leading-edge IT solutions.
The Centre works collaboratively with other Intel IT groups,
Intel product/marketing groups and industry players to drive
adoption of advanced solutions. The Innovation Centre is also
used as a showcasing venue for Intel customers and as a host
venue for industry and Intel customer events.

Education for Knowledge Society Project (EKSP)
A project funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) to help establish
a secondary education system that is equitable and responsive to
labor market requirements. It will increase equity of access to
quality secondary education by upgrading a set of target schools to
an acceptable quality standard. It will support the Government's
strategy to modernize the secondary school curriculum and teaching -
learning methodologies by equipping target schools with science
laboratories, computer facilities, and multimedia units. The
project will also contribute to social equity and building of social
cohesion by minimizing disparities across regions and ethnic groups,
and by promoting inclusive curriculum content and teaching
methodologies.
The Education for Knowledge Society Project has two
major objectives:
- to support the government's strategy to improve the
quality, equity and management efficiency of secondary
education and make it more responsive to labor market
requirements and;
- to contribute to the government's long term policy on
peace building by increasing equity of access to quality
education and promoting education for social cohesion.

The SchoolNet of Sri
Lanka
Ministry of Education with Asian Development Bank funded
Secondary Education Modernization Project (SEMP) has taken
the initiative to establish a wide-area network (WAN)
connecting most of the senior secondary schools and other
related organizations referred to as SchoolNet.
SchoolNet will be the platform for the stakeholders In
school education sector for:
• Schools
• Computer Resource Centers (CRC)
• Provincial ICT Centers
• National Colleges of Education (NCoE)
• Ministry of Education (MoE)
• National Institute of Education (NIE)
• Project management offices of SEMP
Ministry of Education has empowered the SchoolNet to host
the skoool.lk Web site to improve the quality and
accessibility of Maths and Science Online interactive
educational content for Sri Lankan students and teachers.
The SchoolNet.lk is managed by the
University of Moratuwa, Katubedda, Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
